Leading University in Innovation, Research, and Education in Asia

This laboratory conducts basic research on detonation (hypersonic combustion) and its application to aerospace propulsion systems (rocket engines and jet engines).

🔸On July 27, 2021, we successfully conducted the world's first detonation engine flight demonstration test in space using the S-520 sounding rocket of JAXA's Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS).
🔹In 14th November 2024, we conducted the S-520 sounding rocket experiment using a liquid propellant detonation engine with even higher performance.
🔸In fiscal year 2026 or later, we will challenge the third S-520 sounding rocket experiment.
The detonation phenomenon is expected to revolutionize the size and performance of combustors and engine systems, which will fundamentally change the aerospace aircraft system.
