Nagoya University, abbreviated to Meidai or NU, was established in 1871 as a temporary hospital and medical school. It became an imperial university in 1939 and has since grown into one of the world’s top research universities.
NU values a lively and open academic culture. The university focuses on research and education in many areas, including humanity, society, and nature, all aimed at improving people’s well-being and happiness. Our goal is to develop leaders with courage and intelligence, known as “勇気ある知識人” These leaders use their courage and creativity to responsibly pursue their education and research.

Established in April 2022 alongside the Office of International Affairs, Nagoya University Global Multi Campus (GMC) enhances Nagoya University’s worldwide presence by fostering deep, reciprocal partnerships with leading universities in Asia-Pacific, North America, and Europe.
Supported by a network of 13 overseas offices and its Asian Satellite Campuses Institute, Nagoya University is driving its vision as an 'Asian Hub University'. GMC’s three divisions focus on global multi-campus collaboration to promote new international education, research, and industry-government-academia initiatives tailored for the evolving global landscape.
