NUS College Students Participate in GeX Programme at Nagoya University
Nagoya, Japan — 11 to 23 May 2026, Nagoya University hosted students from NUS College, Singapore, under the GeX Programme, a two-week academic and cultural immersion initiative designed to introduce participants to the University's research environment, industry partnerships, and regional innovation ecosystem.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Reception at Nagoya University's International Building, bringing together visiting students, faculty members, staff, and Nagoya University students. The reception provided an opportunity for participants to connect with members of the University community and marked the beginning of their academic and cultural experience in Japan.
As part of the programme, students engaged with Nagoya University's research community through visits to several laboratories, including the Okuda, Mizuno, and Hasegawa Laboratories. Participants learned about ongoing research activities, exchanged ideas with faculty members and graduate students, and gained first-hand insight into the University's research environment.
The programme also included visits to the International Public Relations Office and the D-Center, where students were introduced to Nagoya University's initiatives in international engagement, interdisciplinary education, and innovation.
Beyond the university campus, students explored Japan's industrial and entrepreneurial landscape through visits to NGK Insulators and Station AI. At NGK Insulators, participants gained an overview of advanced materials technology and manufacturing innovation, while learning about the role of industry in driving technological development and addressing societal challenges. The visit offered valuable insight into the practical application of research and engineering within a global industrial context.
At Station AI, one of Japan's leading startup support hubs, students were introduced to the region's growing innovation ecosystem through presentations, facility tours, and discussions with entrepreneurs and industry professionals. The visit provided participants with a broader understanding of how collaboration among universities, industry, startups, and public-sector partners contributes to the development of new technologies and businesses.
In addition to academic and industry-focused activities, the programme offered opportunities for cultural exchange and interaction with members of the Nagoya University community. These experiences enabled students to deepen their understanding of Japanese society and campus life while fostering meaningful international connections.
Through initiatives such as the GeX Programme, Nagoya University continues to strengthen international partnerships and provide students with opportunities to engage with global networks in education, research, industry, and innovation. The programme reflects the University's commitment to cultivating globally minded individuals through experiential learning and cross-cultural exchange.
