Nagoya University School of Informatics Singapore Short-Term Study Program 2026

From 11–18 July 2026, students from the School of Informatics, Nagoya University participated in an intensive short-term study program in Singapore, exploring the theme:

"How Can Young People in Japan Create Value in a Globalized World?"

Through interactions with leading universities, innovative companies, researchers, and industry experts, students gained valuable insights into the skills, mindset, and knowledge required to thrive in a rapidly evolving global environment.

Learning from a World-Class Academic Environment

The program began with a visit to the National University of Singapore (NUS) School of Computing, where students had the privilege of learning about NUS's educational and research initiatives. The delegation was welcomed by Professor Tulika Mitra, Dean of the NUS School of Computing, and Associate Professor Sharon Tan, Vice Dean (Industry Relations), together with faculty members, who shared insights into the School's teaching and research activities.

Students also participated in project-sharing sessions, laboratory visits, and a campus tour, gaining firsthand exposure to one of the world's leading institutions for computing and technology.

Exploring Innovation Across Industries

Students visited several Singapore-based organizations at the forefront of technological innovation:

• DHL Singapore – Learning about digital transformation, sustainability, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), workplace innovation, and the future of logistics.

• Aliena Pte. Ltd. – Exploring the development of satellite propulsion systems and gaining insights into the challenges and opportunities within the space technology sector.

• Weston Robot – Discovering how AI and robotics are being applied in global markets and learning about the future of intelligent automation.

Beyond Technology

The program also featured guest lectures by experts in:

• Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies

• Career

• Financial Literacy

In addition, students strengthened their communication skills through practical Academic English sessions designed to prepare them for international academic and professional environments.

Developing Global Perspectives

As the program progressed, students engaged in group discussions and collaborative activities, reflecting on what they had learned from university visits, industry exposure, and expert talks. These experiences encouraged them to think critically about how young people in Japan can contribute to and create value within an increasingly interconnected world.
