8th Singapore × Nagoya University Community Event Strengthens Global Academic Engagement

On 7 February 2026, Nagoya University Global Campus (Singapore) hosted the 8th Singapore × Nagoya University Community Event at the Nagoya Innovator’s Garage in Nadya Park, Sakae. Marking its third consecutive year in Nagoya, the two-hour programme welcomed 54 participants from diverse academic backgrounds.

The event brought together Japanese, Singaporean, and other international students, alongside alumni, professors, researchers, and university staff. Participants included students preparing for educational opportunities in Singapore—such as the NUS International Summer Programs and other short-term training initiatives—as well as internship pathways including the NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) programme. Students from the National University of Singapore currently undertaking internships in Nagoya under the NOC (Nagoya, Japan) programme also joined, further strengthening bilateral exchange and two-way mobility between the institutions.

Held in the innovation-driven setting of the Innovator’s Garage, the event aimed to deepen intercultural understanding and foster meaningful academic connections between Singapore and Nagoya University. Through structured small-group discussions, participants explored research interests, academic pathways, internship opportunities, and cross-cultural collaboration. Informal networking over light refreshments with Singapore–Japan thematic touches created a welcoming environment for open dialogue and exchange.

Students also shared their motivations for participating. One student preparing for study abroad in Singapore explained,

“As I’m planning to study abroad in Singapore, I saw this as a valuable opportunity to connect with students from NUS in advance.”

Another participant reflected on the broader appeal of the event:

“I’m interested not only in studying abroad and overseas internships, but also in meeting new people and engaging with different perspectives.”

In addition to the main programme, the event served as a meaningful platform for strategic networking. It facilitated a productive meeting with the President of the Chubu Singapore Association and the Singapore officer from Mihama Town—both key counterparts recently visited by the Singapore Ambassador to Japan. The occasion also provided an opportunity to reconnect with the 2026 one-year study abroad cohort and, with input from Ms. Mitani prior to her departure for NTU, to advance preparations for strengthening engagement with Nanyang Technological University in the coming year.

Looking Ahead

The Singapore × Nagoya University Community Event continues to serve as an important platform for academic exchange and partnership development. Nagoya University Global Campus (Singapore) remains committed to supporting students’ global learning journeys while fostering sustained research collaboration and deeper institutional connections between Singapore and Nagoya University.
